Commercial and Industrial Sector’s Rising Demand: An Opportunity for Energy Efficiency
Viet Nam’s Commercial and Industrial (C&I) sector is witnessing a surge in demand, driven by industrial expansion and commercial activities. The need for energy efficiency projects in the country is vast as the nation is accelerating its move towards net-zero commitment by 2050. Recognising the link between sustainable growth and energy efficiency, German companies are introducing solutions that promise both environmental stewardship and economic viability to the local end-users.
German Energy Solutions Initiative: Connecting Vietnamese and German Businesses
Germany has supported Vietnamese development since the 1990s and intends to continue working with Vietnam in the long term. The former is the latter’s most important trading partner in the EU for years. German products in the Southeast Asian country have achieved a good reputation regarding quality. The increasingly high demand for products “made in Germany” is also why German exporters consider Viet Nam an attractive destination. German companies with know-how in engineering in the environmental and climatic sector are potential partners in great demand in Viet Nam. According to the Delegate of German Industry and Commerce in Vietnam (AHK Vietnam), over 300 German firms interact with the Vietnamese market. (Source: AHK Vietnam).
Last month, the Delegate of German Industry and Commerce in Vietnam (AHK Vietnam) organised an energy trade mission. Such missions play a pivotal role in the German Energy Solutions Initiative, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), aimed at bolstering international business partnerships.
This week-long event fostered discussions between notable German firms—including 2G Energy AG, BAE Batterien, and A.Eberle GmbH & Co. KG—and local enterprises and public sector bodies within Viet Nam’s commercial and industrial sectors. The mission commenced with a symposium focused on energy efficiency, granting German representatives a platform to showcase their expertise to a receptive audience of industry professionals. Beyond just presentations, the event paved the way for meaningful interactions. Participants seized the opportunity to network, delve into emerging industry insights, and consider potential collaborative ventures.
PDP’s Role in Steering Energy-Efficiency
During the energy trade mission, the Project Development Programmer (PDP) introduced its suite of services designed to facilitate energy efficiency solutions for the C&I sector. Aligned with Vietnam’s regulatory framework and market nuances, PDP’s services aim to support and guide local off-takers in navigating the complexities of energy efficiency projects. This comprehensive guidance spans from selecting appropriate energy efficiency measures and detailing technical specifications to calculating energy savings and providing insights on optimal investment scenarios, positioning the C&I sector at the forefront of Vietnam’s energy transformation.

German Energy Solutions Initiative
Implemented by GIZ, the PDP is an integral part of the German Energy Solutions Initiative. Coordinated and financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), it aims to globalise German and European technologies and expertise in climate-friendly energy solutions. The PDP combines development cooperation with private-sector engagement to foster partnerships between local businesses and trusted providers of climate-friendly energy solutions, creating mutually beneficial outcomes and advancing the energy transition in its cooperation countries. Simultaneously, German and European providers benefit by easing their market entry into developing and emerging countries.
The PDP works closely with the German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHK) to implement tailor-made local solutions.
